Why Calgary homeowners are switching to WPC composite.
The problem no one warns you about. Calgary's freeze-thaw cycles are brutal. Temperatures swing from -30°C in January to +30°C in July, sometimes inside a single week thanks to chinooks. Wood expands, contracts, cracks, warps, and eventually rots. Most cedar fences in Calgary need major repair by year 8 and full replacement by year 12.
Why WPC is engineered for exactly this. Wood-Plastic Composite is made from recycled wood fibres bonded with polymer. It doesn't crack in cold, warp in heat, or rot in moisture. No staining, sealing, or painting. Just a fence that still looks good in year 20. Every post we install is set to 4 ft — below Calgary's frost line — so your fence stays plumb through every spring thaw.
The cost math most contractors won't show you. Yes, WPC runs 30–40% more upfront than cedar. But over 20 years, a wood fence needs 2–3 rounds of staining ($500–800 each), at least one major repair, and usually a full replacement at year 12–15. WPC? Hose it off once a year. Break-even is year 8–10. After that, it's pure savings.

About
Meet Tony.
HeartBuild Landscaping is owner-operated by Tony Zhang — and that matters more than it sounds. When you hire us, Tony is on your job site. Not a subcontractor you've never met. Not a crew lead checking in from a different project.
Tony started HeartBuild Landscaping in 2018 after years of watching friends get burned by fence contractors who vanished after the cheque cleared. His rule: measure twice, cut once, and don't leave until it looks the way it would in your own yard.
You'll get one quote, one timeline, one team to call. Tony handles the build; Sky Li handles the quote and scheduling. If something goes sideways (it rarely does), someone picks up.
